THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The UDF made progress by winning 17 out of 33 seats in the local body by-elections, while the AAP once again opened its account within Kerala. The seats of Congress increased from seven to 14, whereas the seats of CPM reduced from 8 to 7.

While the BJP captured the Manambur ward in Aruvikkara in Thiruvananthapuram from the CPM, the AAP captured Nediyakadu in Karinkunnam Panchayat in Idukki from the Congress. In 2015, the AAP candidate had won from the 21st Ward in Alappuzha South Panchayat. The CPM, which retained four of the eight seats, captured two seats from the BJP and one seat from the Congress.
