SYDNEY: Australian off-spinner Nathan Lyon needs just four more wickets to reach the hallmark of 500 wickets in Test cricket. Australia is about to face Pakistan in the test series starting from Thursday and Lyon expects to complete this feat within the coming few days.
Lyon, who made his test debut in 2011, is one of the best off-spinners in modern test cricket. And now, Lyon who is nearing his 500 wicket feat has heaped praises on this Indian cricketer whom he called his 'coach'.
Lyon considers Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin his coach.
"Ashwin is a world-class spinner. A star I have watched very closely since the beginning of his career. We have played against each other in many situations. Ashwin can adapt his bowling according to different conditions and take advantage of it. I have great respect for him. Whenever I played against Ashwin, I learned a lot from him. We can learn a lot from our opponents. If you look at it like that, Ashwin is my biggest coach” Lyon said.
“We both are reaching our 500-wicket hallmark. I hope after retiring, I can share a beer with Ashwin and we will sit together talking about our beautiful cricket journey” Lyon said.
