NEW DELHI: The tightly weaved security apparatus in the parliament turned into a joke as two youths from the visitors’ gallery, jumped into the MP panel spraying colour smoke on members, in one shocking incident on Wednesday during the Zero hours in Lok Sabha.

Wednesday was the 22nd anniversary of the 2001 parliament attacks and the ruckus that ensued today was a reminder about the fall in standards of security measures adopted in the parliament. On Wednesday, the MPs overpowered the culprits and handed them over to the security personnel. At the same time, two people, including a woman, who used smoke spray and shouted slogans outside Parliament were arrested later.

Sagar Sharma from Lucknow, D. Manoranjan from Mysore, Neelam Devi from Hisar in Haryana and Amol Shinde from Maharashtra were arrested for the crime. Their aide, Lalit Jha, was later caught. Vicky Sharma, who allowed all four to use his house is on the police radar. Sagar and Manoranjan entered the visitors' gallery with a pass issued by Pratap Simha, a BJP member from Mysore.

Neelam Devi and Amol Shinde were caught from the outside of parliament while they were protesting with slogans. Police wrote off any links to terrorism while the Lok Sabha decided to ban visitors indefinitely.

Sagar Sharma and D. Manoranjan, who were sitting in the front row of the visitors' gallery near the Media Gallery of the Lok Sabha, jumped down from a considerable height during the break time at 12.55 pm yesterday.

The two after landing down, tried walking through the desks towards the speaker, shouting slogans. The smoke canister hidden in their shoes was taken out by the culprits to spray at the members.

Sagar Sharma was defeated by RLP MP Hanuman Beniwal and Congress's Gurjit Singh Ojla. Manoranjan was also arrested. Yellow smoke spread in the congregation. The MPs fearing the yellow color for poisonous gas, ran out from the chambers.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was in Bhopal to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister.

Union Ministers Rajnath Singh, Hardeep Singh Puri, Anupriya Patel, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Malayalam MPs K. Muraleedharan, MK Raghavan, Dean Kuriakose, Benny Behanan, Ramya Haridas and others were present in the assembly.
