PATHANAMTHITTA: The police said the stone pillars erected to build the roof of the Pathinettam Padi at Sabarimala is causing difficulty for the devotees to climb. The police said they have informed the devaswom Board about it. The police’ explanation in this regard was when the board criticized the police for not being fast in allowing the devotees to climb through the Pathinettam Padi.

The project included a falling roof over carved stone pillars. Once the new roof comes, poojas can be performed smoothly. Along with this, the protection of the gold-plated Pathinettam Padi can also be ensured. If this was the intention, the police said that these pillars, which are now incomplete, will become difficult for them and they should remove them.

Meantime, ADGP M R Ajith Kumar informed the high court that an average of 90,000 people visit Sabarimala every day and this is the reason for the increase in rush. Ajith Kumar is the chief coordinator of police at Sabarimala. The visuals from Sabarimala were shown to the court through live streaming. The hour-long explanation also included the steps taken to control the rush along the route including Appachimedu, Saramkuthi and Sabaripeedam.

The number of spot bookings at Pampa and Nilakkal also increased. Devotees from Kerala mainly use for spot booking. It is aimed to pass 80-85 people per minute through the 18th step. Only 60-65 people can be transported in a minute when women, children and senior citizens arrive. A maximum of 1440 devotees can stand on the flyover. The ADGP also explained that 10 to 15 percent of people come for darshan without having the irumudikettu. The high court will consider the report today.
