NEW DELHI: Eight security personnel have been suspended over the massive security lapse in Lok Sabha. When the incident took place, the officers were at the critical access point and entrance gate of the Parliament.
The Ministry of Home Affairs has ordered a detailed investigation into the incident. The head of the Central Reserve Police Force has been given the charge of the probe. The police have registered a case against the accused on charges including trespass, criminal conspiracy, obstruction, provocation with intent to cause riot, and the stringent Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla announced that he will write to the Home Ministry about the security breach that occurred in the Parliament on Wednesday. The opposition demanded action against BJP MP Pratap Simha, who granted the pass for the entry of one of the accused.
Five people, including a woman, were arrested in connection with the incident. Two youths jumped from the visitors' gallery into the Lok Sabha chamber and set off a yellow smoke. The MPs subdued them and handed them over to the security personnel. At the same time, two people, including a woman, used smoke bombs and shouted slogans outside Parliament.
Sagar Sharma from Lucknow, D Manoranjan from Mysuru Neelam Devi from Hisar in Haryana and Amol Shinde from Maharashtra were arrested on the spot. An accomplice, Lalit Jha, was later arrested. Search is underway to nab Vicky Sharma, who was part of the conspiracy. The gang hatched the conspiracy while staying at Lalit Jha's house.
