KOZHIKODE: In the vibrant city of Calicut, Lalitha Chechi stands tall as a beacon of honesty and dedication in the auto-driving community. Known affectionately by locals as "Satyameva Jayate," Lalitha has become synonymous with integrity and goodwill.

Breaking barriers, Lalitha holds the esteemed title of being Kozhikode's first female auto driver. With a career spanning over three decades, she has been the stalwart support of her family driving her way through life's challenges since 1994.

Hailing from Parappanangadi, Lalitha's journey commenced with a rented auto eventually paving the way for her to acquire her own vehicle in 1996. Her remarkable reputation for honesty took root after an incident where she promptly returned a bag containing a considerable sum of money belonging to Cartoonist BM Ghafoor's son-in-law.

The admirable act didn't go unnoticed. Showered with awards and respect, the community recognized Lalitha's exceptional integrity. Moved by her kindness, locals rallied together forming a citizen committee to help her purchase a new auto aptly named "Sathyameva Jayate."

Born to late Pallikal Ayyappan and Kausalya near Kozhikode Civil Station, Lalitha's educational journey saw her attending Bilathikulam Govt. UP School and Nadakkavu Girls School. Her foray into the auto-driving world began as a means to support her family when her husband, Ramakrishnan fell ill facing financial hardships. Determined to ensure her husband's recovery and provide for her children Rajeesh and Pragini, Lalitha embarked on her auto-driving career at the age of thirty-seven.

From the crack of dawn until the evening, Lalitha's auto faithfully plies its route, arriving at the Parappanangadi stand at 7 AM and departing at 6:30 PM ensuring a steady income for her family.

Today, Lalitha rejoices in her family's well-being. Her perseverance through challenging times bore fruit, enabling her to sell her initial auto and purchase a new one.

Speaking of her life's dedication, Lalitha remarks, "Auto is my sustenance. As long as I have good health, I'll continue to thrive by driving an auto."
