THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: District Collector's report to the Minority Commission revealed that Dr Shehna committed suicide due to depression resulting from an inability to meet a substantial dowry demand. This finding was corroborated by the District Women and Child Development Officer who serves as the Dowry Prohibition Officer. The report submitted to the City Police Commissioner and Minority Commission Chairman Adv A A Rasheed highlighted the stress caused by financial demands.

According to the Collector's report, Shehana's relatives disclosed that Ruwais and her father had insisted on a significant dowry during discussions with Ruwais's family in Karunagapally.

The City Police Commissioner's report presented to the commission specified charges against Ruwais and his father Abdul Rasheed. Ruwais has been arrested and ongoing investigations are underway regarding the case.

Dr Thomas Mathew, the Director of Medical Education, concluded in a report that Shehna's demise resulted from events following her return to her residence in the medical college. A committee reporting to the DME ascertained that Ruwais had declared the marriage would not proceed. Investigations from the medical college committee revealed Shehna's sorrow upon learning of this decision.

Acknowledging the ongoing investigation, the commission requested additional time to furnish a comprehensive report. The case is scheduled for a hearing after the Christmas break. Prompted by media coverage of Shehna's tragic death, the commission voluntarily initiated legal proceedings.

During the commission proceedings, Joint Director Dr. Geeta Ravindran, RMO Dr Mohan Roy and Administrative Officer VV Jaya provided testimony on behalf of the Director of Medical Education.
