PATHANAMTHITTA: Limiting the number of pilgrims visiting Sabarimala to 90,000 per day may affect the temple revenue in the coming days.

After 28 days of pilgrimage, it is estimated that 17.52 lakh devotees have visited the holy shrine. After another 33 days, the Mandala-Makaravilakku Pilgrimage season will come to an end. If the devotees are restricted to 90,000 per day (virtual queue 80,000, spot booking 10,000), 29.70 lakh more pilgrims can visit during this season. A total of 47.22 lakh people will get darshan through booking during the pilgrimage season.

According to the Devaswom Board, there are about one and a half lakh people who cross the Kanana Patha(Via Erumeli by walking 61 km) through the grassland and come directly to Sannidhanam without reaching Pamba. Taking that into account, around 49 lakh devotees can reach during this pilgrimage.

65 lakh devotees came during the last pilgrimage and the revenue obtained was Rs 351 crores. This time, if 16 lakh devotees decrease, the income will drop drastically. Even after 28 days of the pilgrimage, the Devaswom Board has not disclosed the revenue figures.
