THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A clash broke out during the protest march organised by the Youth Congress towards the houses of Chief Minister's gunman Anil Kumar and Escort Policeman Sandeep, who beat the Youth Congress workers during the protest against the Nava Kerala Sadas. The police resorted to lathi-charge after the Youth Congress workers, who marched towards Sandeep's house in Thiruvananthapuram, pelted stones at them. The police also used a water cannon three times at the Youth Congress workers after they tried to overturn the barricade set up for security near the house. CPM workers have also gathered at the place. District presidents of Youth Congress and KSU were injured in the lathi-charge.
Security was arranged at Anil's houses in Peroorkada and Kalliyoor and Sandeep's house in Pottakkuzhi after the Youth Congress announced that they would hold a march towards the houses of the policemen who attacked its workers. Youth Congress state president Rahul Mamkootathil had announced that the Youth Congress would march to Sandeep's house no matter how much security was provided.
Anil Kumar, the chief minister's gunman, was seen thrashing Youth Congress workers with a stick in Alappuzha. A video of the incident has surfaced online. According to existing norms, the gunman must stick close to the CM and ensure his safety and is devoid of any authority to beat up protesters. Here in Alappuzha, despite a strong police presence, Anil Kumar was seen brandishing a stick and mercilessly thrashing congress workers. Anil Kumar’s conduct was questioned earlier too when he pushed a journalist away in Idukki and made a similar attack on protesters in Perumbavoor during the Nava Kerala Sadas event.
