THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The incident of the Mahila Morcha activists protesting and entering the official residence of the DGP became another embarrassment to the police force which failed to provide security to the Governor. It is reported that the DGP has expressed his displeasure in the incident to the officials.
The reason for yesterday's incident was that the intelligence warning that there would be a protest against the DGP was taken lightly. When it was announced that there would be a protest against the DGP, special vigilance was taken at the police headquarters, but it did not happen at the residence. The Police Rapid Response and Rescue Force (RRRF) is responsible for the security of the official residence of the Chief of Police. It was in front of these officers, who had received special training unlike other police units, that five Mahila Morcha activists ran to the yard of the house and protested by sitting there. The top officials sought an explanation from those who were on duty at the time of the incident. The RRRF team was also unable to stop the sit-in in the house yard, of the protesters who ran past those on duty
The main gate of the DGP's official residence near Vazhuthacaud DPI Junction which remains closed all the time works under remote control. The small gate nearby is also locked from inside. Entry from outside can be done only if security personnel open the gate. Security personnel do not open this gate without proper information about the visitors. Officials say that the gate was opened when five people came together and told them they had to file a complaint with the DGP. DGP do not entertain visitors or take complaints at home. In this situation, the question arises as to why the gate was opened.
No obstacle to detain
Top officials pointed out that women police are deployed to stop and detain women protesting in public places, but women police are not specifically needed to stop the protesters who barged into the DGP's heavily guarded house. Officers are appointed to prevent trespassing. There is no need to stay away from it just because there are no women police. Officials also clarified that usually women officers are not assigned for duty in DGP's house.
