CHERTHALA: A youth created an atmosphere of terror in Cherthala by driving a car without a front tyre. Udayanapuram native Deepan Nair (28), who was under the alcohol, drove dangerously and knocked down several pedestrians and vehicles on the way. 11 people sustained injuries. The youth was later taken into custody. He rammed into eight two-wheelers, two cars and an autorickshaw under the influence of alcohol.
The incident transpired during the hours of 11.30 am and 12.30 pm. Police and locals apprehended Deepan Nair after his car collided with another vehicle close to the Varanadu intersection. While driving on the Arukkutty route, Deepan Nair ignored the Poochakkal police's attempts to stop the car and kept driving at a fast pace. The police officers narrowly escaped t as they moved out of the way.
Deepan Nair kept knocking down other vehicles and people even as the police pursued him. After smashing into another car close to Varanadu, he jumped out of his car and attempted to harm the locals and police. The officers then used force to subdue him. The front part of the car was completely destroyed. Injured two-wheeler passengers Jithin, KA Anju and Vishnu Dinesan sought treatment at Cherthala Taluk Hospital.
