KOTTAYAM: With three-and-a-half months to go before the end of the financial year, the building tax to be collected remains Rs 1990.14 crores. Only Rs 641.42 crores have been collected so far. The total amount to be collected is Rs 2631.25 crores.
Local bodies are advised to collect the remaining tax in the wake of the financial strangling experienced by Kerala. The directorate has asked officials to expedite the tax collection since a good lot of money from the government coffers has been splashed into the Nava Kerala Sadas, which is now adding to the worries of the government’s economic crisis.
Taxes are to be paid in two instalments in a year, but usually, they are paid together at the end. A penalty notice has also been issued to those who have defaulted for the first time.
