THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Right to Information Commission has directed the Director of Civil Supplies to probe a complaint regarding the misuse of documents to obtain ration cards by the husband's family. State Information Commissioner A Abdul Hakeem has held the Idukki Devikulam Supply Officer accountable for not responding to a Right to Information Act request. The officer has been instructed to provide a written explanation by December 22nd.
The complaint was filed by Kalai Selvam, a resident of Idukki Devikulam alleging that her husband's family acquired ration cards through misleading means to gain financial benefits. It's claimed that after her husband's elder brother's accidental death, his family acquired a ration card in Kerala to access financial benefits. Notably, the husband's name on the ration card did not initially include his brother's wife and son but their names were later added without disclosing the elder brother's death in an accident in January.
Allegations further assert that the family obtained ration cards in both Kerala and Tamil Nadu falsely claiming that the Tamil Nadu card was canceled. Despite filing a complaint with the Supply Officer for the cancellation of the Kerala ration card, no action was taken. Additionally, attempts to ascertain the status of the complaint through a Right to Information Act request remained unanswered leading to the subsequent complaint to the Information Commissioner.
