KOZHIKODE: On the Governor-SFI face-off, Congress leader Shashi Tharoor MP has taken a stand supporting the governor. "As the chancellor of the universities, the governor has certain powers and rights. There is no problem with the governor using it as per the law. If there is any dispute, they should approach the court.", Tharoor said.
Tharoor said that the governor called the SFI workers as bloody criminals because he felt that way. "It is a problem between the governor and the protesters. If there is an allegation of the protestors being beaten, the police should take action considering both sides. It is not right to take sides and the job of the police is not to act as an agent of any political party.", he added.
"Is showing black flag against the Chief Minister against democracy? Did they throw stones? What right does the police have to suppress showing black flag?", Tharoor asked,
Meanwhile, the dramatic events that took place in the University of Calicut give an indication that the governor will continue to fight the SFI in the coming days.
Chancellor Go Back banners and protest banners against him were taken down by the Governor Police. Raj Bhavan had also issued a press release saying that all this is being done on the instructions of the Chief Minister. The governor had asked the district police chief in harsh language whether such protests would be allowed at the chief minister's residence. The governor is intensifying the fight with the government. The Chief Minister and the government department including other ministers are determined not to give up.
