KOCHI: Accused Dr EA Ruwais has denied involvement in the suicide of Dr Shehna, a doctor from the medical college. In his bail application in the High Court, Ruwais argued that the charge against him as per the Dowry Prohibition Act would not stand. Earlier, Thiruvananthapuram Additional Judicial Magistrate's Court had rejected the bail application submitted by Ruwais. Following this, he approached the High Court seeking bail.
In the bail application, Ruwais says that the claim that he demanded dowry from Dr Shehna is not true. Ruwais claims that he told Shehna that they can get married after completing the PG course but she did not agree to that. In the bail application, Ruwais alleged that he was arrested as an act of revenge for criticizing the police in the murder of Dr Vandana Das.
Ruwais's lawyer told the court that his client was expelled from the college because he was arrested by the police. While considering the bail plea, Justice P Gopinath replied that the dead girl was also smart. The court also pointed out that dowry should not be demanded under any circumstances. The accused has been charged with violating the Dowry Prohibition Act and abetting suicide. Ruwais' bail plea will be heard again on Wednesday.
