THENJIPALAM: Amidst protests by the SFI, the Vice Chancellor MK Jayaraj did not attend the seminar inaugurated by the governor at Calicut University. The seminar organized by the University Sanathana Dharmapeedam Chair and Bharatiya Vicharakendram had the governor as its guest of honour.

Due to the VC's absence, Swami Chidanandapuri assumed the chairperson's role expressing dissatisfaction at the breach of protocol. He stated that the Pro Vice Chancellor should have attended in the VC's place. SFI members staged a vigorous protest outside the campus during the seminar. Police intervened detaining several protesters including SFI state secretary PM Arsho to maintain order.

Governor's strong criticism of SFI drew attention during the event. He labelled the organization as a group of 'gangsters' and accused the Chief Minister of sending SFI members under police security to protest against him.

Earlier, a banner against the governor at the university campus triggered a confrontation. Malappuram SP SS Sasidharan demanded its removal engaging in a tense exchange with the governor resulting in the banner's eventual removal. The governor summoned VC MK Jayaraj to the guest house afterward rebuking him for the absence and demanded a report on actions taken within 24 hours.
