THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The government order that District Collectors should raise money for the running of the Navakerala Sadas through advertisement revenue has been stayed by the High Court. The High Court stayed the order on the grounds that there were no guidelines for the collection and accounting of the money. The court action is based on a petition filed by a native of Pathanamthitta. Meanwhile, the court has not completely stayed the order to find the money.
The petition demanded that the government's order requiring the District Collectors to meet the running costs through sponsorship etc. be declared illegal. The petition also says that the government's reply is against the All India Service Rules. According to the All India Service Rules, District Collectors are not allowed to receive emoluments. Also, money should not be raised without the prior approval of the government even if it is for programs. Therefore, the government's order is illegal, the petition says.
