TAIPEI CITY: A woman named Xiao was rushed to hospital due to severe back pain and fever. Upon examination, doctors were stunned to discover over 300 kidney stones in her system likening their appearance to small steamed buns.
Dr Lim Chye-Yang, a prominent urologist attended to Xiao upon her admission to the hospital. It was revealed that her excessive consumption of bubble tea was the root cause of her severe kidney condition. Xiao had been substituting water with bubble tea regularly leading to dehydration and the development of kidney stones.
Dr Lim highlighted that about 9.6% of Taiwan's population faces a risk of kidney stone development primarily due to elevated levels of calcium and protein. Dehydration, particularly during the summer months escalates the susceptibility to such illnesses.
Fortunately, surgical procedures successfully removed the kidney stones from Xiao's body leading to a notable improvement in her health. Doctors anticipate her imminent discharge from the hospital as she continues to recover.
