NEW DELHI: During today's Lok Sabha session, chaos ensued resulting in the suspension of 49 members including notable figures like Shashi Tharoor, Supriya Sule, Adoor Prakash and Danish Tiwari. This suspension brings the total count of opposition MPs suspended in this session to a staggering 141. Notably, Sonia and Rahul Gandhi have been exempted from suspension by Speaker Om Birla.

The uproar began as the opposition demanded answers from Union Home Minister Amit Shah concerning a security lapse in Parliament. Opposition members protested by raising posters prompting the Speaker to take action and suspend the members.

Minister Prahlad Joshi also called for action against those displaying posters depicting Prime Minister Modi with his mouth closed. This mass suspension marks an unprecedented event in the history of Parliament surpassing the 1989 expulsion of 63 MPs by the Congress government over passing critical bills amidst protests.

Speaker Om Birla clarified that no government statement regarding the security breach investigation is necessary. Consequently, there's speculation of an early conclusion to the winter session potentially passing three justice bills in the absence of opposition presence.
