KOLLAM: DYFI’s ‘life-saving acts’ done with the auspices of CM Pinarayi Vijayan took a halt on Tuesday after the Youth Congress in Kollam decided to repay debts.
Kollam city saw violence after a pack of DYFI workers decided to confront Youth Congress members who waved a black flag at the NKS bus ferrying CM Pinarayi Vijayan. While the congress workers were taken away in a police jeep, the DYFI workers followed them with sticks to attack the congress workers. However, the plot took another turn after congress workers inside the jeep sprayed pepper sprays into the DYFI members' faces.
Youth Congress State Vice President Vishnusunil Pandalam sustained head injuries. Former State General Secretary Faisal Kulapadam, State Secretary Sarath Mohan, District Vice President Adarsh Bhargavan and DYFI Block Jo. Secretary Sumesh and CPM worker Ben were also injured. DYFI gang kicked Vishnu Sunil to the ground.
The clash took place between Bishop Jerome Nagar and Chinnakada Bus Bay at 11:45 am on Tuesday. Youth Congress workers waved black flags from Bishop Jerome Nagar as the Nava Kerala bus was coming out from the beach hotel in Karunagappally. After the CM’s escort vehicle left the place, another vehicle with DYFI workers arrived at the place and started manhandling Youth Congress workers. However, breaking their usual stoic mode, the Youth Congress decided to retaliate which came as a shock to many.
Both DYFI and congress workers extended their fight inside a hotel in the area. A young woman who was having food in the restaurant was injured in the melee. The seriously injured Youth Congress workers sought treatment at a private hospital.
