THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A startup is becoming a relief for those suffering from memory loss. More than two lakh people in the state are suffering from dementia. There are situations where you forget not only the people you need but even your own name.
'Ease Dementia' is a start-up started four months ago in Kochi to detect the disease early and improve memory. This is the first time such an initiative is happening in Kerala. 41-year-old Jolly Jose Pynadath is the CEO.
'The condition was understood in person when the mother of my friend's wife was suffering from amnesia. The thought of what can be done for such people is what led to this initiative"- said Jolly Jose. Jolly started the initiative after working as an HR head in companies including Flipkart for more than 15 years.
His friends psychologist Cyana Sen (22) and Snijo PJ (24) from the IT sector joined his. His wife and special educator Amrita P. Varghese (36) gave the necessary support.
The team members will visit the homes of the people with amnesia. By talking to the patients and giving them memory tests, the stage of the disease is ascertained. Following this, there will be two-hour sessions three days a week. Some people are afraid of making a mistake while speaking. In front of them, the team will be a better listener. Brushes and colors will be provided for painting. Exercises will be done. Music will be played. Caregivers will also be trained. An artificial intelligence (AI) app for the startup's operations will soon be launched.
The 15-member team includes psychologists as well.
