NEW DELHI: After Bengal CM and TMC leader Mamata Banerjee suggested that Mallikarjun Kharge as the INDIA bloc's prime ministerial candidate, the Congress President came with a response. Speaking to the media, Kharge said that the alliance need not project a PM face, as the immediate task is to win the elections.

“If we do not have MPs, what is the objective of talking about PM. So, we will contest collectively to win majority,” he said. “After winning, our MPs will follow the democratic process (to elect PM),” he said.

It is reported that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and others supported Mamata's proposal.

In the alliance meeting, Kharge has reportedly said that the MPs should democratically elect the Prime Minister if the front gets the necessary majority to rule.
