THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A march taken out by the youth congress to the secretariat in the capital city turned unruly. A clash broke out between the police and the activists. Leaders including Rahul Mamkootathil sustained injuries. The dresses of women leaders including that of congress state vice president Aritha Babu were torn in the clash. The police resorted to lathi charge to disperse the unruly mob.
The policemen were also injured in the attack by Congress workers. The activists smashed the windows of the police vehicle and the shields with sticks. The police used water cannons against the activists who tried to jump the barricades. The activists threw sandals and stones towards the police. The activists squatted on the roads alleging that the police locked up one of their activists. Meanwhile, the police arrested some of the activists from shops. The activists damaged the boards installed in front of the secretariat as part of Nava Kerala Sadas.
With this, opposition leader V D Satheesan returned to the striking spot. Following that, the tension eased a bit. Satheesan told media that some of their women activists were stopped by the police. Satheesan demanded action against the police who attacked women activists.
