THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: High Court has upheld allegations against Dr EA Ruwais following the suicide of Dr Shahna due to purported dowry demands. Shahna's suicide note revealed distressing details about financial pressures and a strained relationship with Ruwais.

The police report highlighted that Ruwais explicitly asked Shahna for dowry money leading to her emotional distress. This revelation was supported by Ruwais' admission of seeking money from Shahna just two days before her untimely demise.

Despite Ruwais' claim of a mere friendship, the police provided evidence showcasing their close relationship, including travel photographs submitted in court. The court rejected Ruwais' defense and found substantial truth in the accusations against him as expressed verbally during his bail application.

Justice P Gopinath's bench, adjourning the hearing to further review the case acknowledged the presence of references in Shahna's suicide note directly implicating Ruwais. Moreover, the court emphasized Ruwais' awareness of Shahna's financial difficulties and eyewitnesses' accounts discussing financial matters at Shahna's residence.

The court also noted Shahna's attempt to contact Ruwais on the day of her tragic suicide, only to be avoided and subsequently blocked by him as per records.

Ruwais remains in judicial custody arguing that any legal actions would jeopardize his career while the court maintains the gravity of the allegations against him.
