THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan in Kollam on the sidelines of the NKS event decided to grant 270 new posts including 262 teaching posts of doctors in medical colleges. With this decision, 42 super speciality departments will soon start work.

Medical colleges in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Konni, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Manjeri, Kozhikode, Kannur will reap the benefits of this decision.

Kerala Kaumudi had earlier drawn eyes to the lack of doctors and lack of specialist departments in Kollam, Konni, Idukki, Ernakulam, Manjeri and Kasaragod medical colleges, where the infant mortality rate is high. The vacancies in these hospitals remained unfilled for many years until the news report.

Kasaragod Medical College appointed a Principal for the first time. Principal, Professor, Asst. Professor, Accounts Officer, Senior Clerk, Data Entry Operator, Office Attendant, Electrician and Technical Assistant Grade posts have also been created.
