NEW DELHI: Difference of opinion in INDIA alliance over making Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge the Dalit prime ministerial candidate. Many parties also have problems with seat allocation.
It is reported that the JD(U) and RJD have opposed Trinamool leader Mamata Banerjee and Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal's proposal for a Dalit Prime Minister. RJD had supported JDU's demand to consider Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
No decision was taken at the INDIA meeting in Delhi due to differences in opinion. As the media celebrated Kharge, Nitish Kumar and RJD leader Lalu Prasad Yadav boycotted the press conference where the decisions of the meeting were explained. Kharge said in the press conference that the aim is to get a majority and the Prime Minister will be decided later.
No alliance with Trinamool: CPM
CPM rejected Mamata Banerjee's alliance offer to defeat BJP in Bengal. CPM General Secretary Sitaram Yechury said that they will contest with the Congress and other secular parties in Bengal and the aim is to defeat BJP and Trinamool.
Nitish or Priyanka in Varanasi
The INDIA front has moved to contest prominent people in Varanasi, the constituency of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The names of Nitish Kumar and Priyanka Gandhi are heard. If they are not ready, Kejriwal will be asked to contest like in 2014. Varanasi is a constituency where the BJP has been winning continuously since 1991 except in 2004. In 2014 and 2019, Modi won with a huge majority.
