KOCHI: The government has money for all celebrations but has no money to spend for pensions, said the Kerala High Court while considering Mariyakutty’s plea over the non-disbursal of social security pension. The court has asked the government to inform their decision tomorrow in disbursing pension to Mariyakutty. However, the government has informed the high court that financial crisis is the reason for the non-disbursal of pension. In that case, the court asked whether the government is stopping any celebrations on the grounds of financial crisis. The court's reference was while considering the plea of Mariyakutty, a native of Adimali.
Justice Devan Ramachandran reacted emotionally while considering her plea. She is 78 years and has no other means to live. The court said that she is waiting for the pension amount of Rs 1600 for medicine and food. He said that, if necessary, the money can be collected from the lawyers. She had informed the court that she does not even have her own house to live in.
Meantime, the government informed the court that they are in a financial crisis and that is why four months of pension has not been disbursed. In addition, the government also told the court that they are not getting the central share. However, the court questioned the government’s argument of financial crisis. The court asked the government whether they are canceling any celebrations on the grounds of insufficient money.
