THIRUVANNATHAPURAM: A major clash broke out in the KSU march staged against the police attack on activists who showed black flags towards Nava Kerala Sadas. The march was from the DCC office to the police headquarters. The march was staged breaking the flux boards of the Nava Kerala Sadas seen on the way. Police barricaded the march on the way.


A clash later broke out between the police and the activists. KSU workers threw chilli powder at the police. Police used water cannons. Many including women activists were injured in the lathi charge. The police attacked journalists also. Mathew Kuzhanadan MLA was also beaten up by the police. Many including KSU state president have been arrested. Attempts are being made to forcibly evacuate the activists from the spot.

The youth congress activists clashed with the police yesterday when the march staged by them turned violent. The KSU staged the march in protest against the police goondaism for thrashing their activists who showed black flags towards the Nava Kerala Sadas.

After the opposition leader V D Satheesan inaugurated the march, the activists damaged the banners of the Nava Kerala Sadas. When the activists tried to jump into the secretariat premises, the police resorted to lathi charge. The police used water cannons to disperse the unruly mob. Many including youth congress state president Rahul Mamkootathil, who led the strike were injured.


Police shields were smashed. The activists tried to jump the wall of the Secretariat and when the police resisted, they started pelting stones. Water cannons were fired five times but they did not disperse. Several people were injured in the lathi charge. Youth Congress state vice-president Abin Varkey has been admitted to the hospital after he injured his knee. The police tore the clothes of a female activist.


Angry activists climbed the barricades and shouted slogans. Resorted to lathi charge again. The glass panes of the police vehicle were smashed when tried to remove them from the spot. A team led by Rahul Mamkootathil squatted in protest against the police high handedness towards women activists. Youth congress former state chief Shafi Parambil, DCC president Palode Ravi, M Vincent MLA and other leaders had participated in the march.
