KOCHI: A special court probing the Karuvannur bank fraud case raised concerns over the Enforcement Directorate's (ED) approach questioning why all accused weren't arrested. While some are in judicial custody others have received bail after appearing on summons.
During proceedings related to CPM local leader PR Arvindakshan's bail plea, the court inquired about the selective arrests. ED's counsel cited non-cooperation as grounds for arrests referencing a Supreme Court directive. Aravindakshan contended his arrest for complicity without arresting the primary fraudsters citing a complaint against the investigating officer. The ED refuted these claims asserting Aravindakshan's lack of cooperation.
Consequently, the Ernakulam special court adjourned Aravindakshan's bail plea. ED in its ongoing investigation questioned CPM District Secretary MM Varghese for the fourth time highlighting alleged non-cooperation during interrogation sessions.
Sources within the ED revealed Varghese's purported lack of cooperation during the lengthy interrogation conducted from 11.15 AM until 6 PM on the previous day.
