KOCHI: The Kerala High Court granted conditional bail to accused Dr Ruwais in the suicide case of Dr Shehna of Thiruvananthapuram Medical College. In his bail plea, Ruwais requested the court to allow him to complete his studies, bail should be granted and that he is willing to approve any conditions. Bail was granted following that. The high court said the disciplinary committee can take a decision after consulting with the health department regarding the withdrawal of the suspension.
Ruwais in his bail plea alleged that he has no role in Shehna's suicide and that the case was filed based on media reports. Ruwais told the court that there is a past enmity for criticizing the police and the dowry allegation is not true. He also asserted in the bail plea that a decision was taken to conduct the marriage with Shehna after studies but she was not willing for that and that he didn’t want to get married before completing his studies.
On the complaint of Shehna's family, a case was filed against Ruwais under the charge of abetment to suicide and Dowry Prohibition Act. Shehna's mother and sister told police that Ruwais’ family demanded huge dowry and when they did not get it, withdrew from the marriage. Based on this, the police registered a case against Ruwais.
