THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: As Rahul and Shilpakrishna prepare to get married at the Agasthyam martial arts school where they underwent training for kalarippayattu, the techniques they learnt together here will give them company. Close relatives and friends from 'Agasthyam' will be there to bless the couple. Agasthyam is gearing up to host the simple wedding ceremony without much galore.
On the day of the wedding, the little members of the martial arts school will receive the groom Rahul Suresh by holding a sword and shield in their hands. Shilpakrishna, the bride, will wait for him at the Kathirmandapam (decorated dais pavilion) set up on the Kalari. The wedding will take place between 12 noon and 12.45 pm on December 28. As Shilpa's father Jayakumar places his daughter's hand in Rahul's, 'Agasthyam' will witness the 'Kalari marriage.'
Naruvamoodu native Rahul was 12 years old when he first saw Shilpa at the martial arts school. They then underwent training together. After several years, Rahul returned to Kalari after taking a long leave from his job at the Secretariat. Shilpa too returned there after completing Computer Engineering. Their friendship grew stronger as Rahul became Guru and Shilpa became his disciple. However, it was their family members who brought them together. After the wedding, a sadya will be arranged outside the Kalari.
The video of Shilpa brandishing two urumis (urumi is a sword with a flexible, whip-like blade) at the same time with both her hands went viral on social media. It was Rahul who taught her this trick. The theme for images and visuals for the 'save the date' is also Kalarippayattu. The mothers of the bride and the groom are also taking Kalari lessons.
