KOCHI: The Kerala High Court directed the police to provide adequate protection to the members nominated by the Governor to the Calicut University Senate. Justice Basant Balaji issued the order on the petition filed by the Governor's nominees.
The petitioners alleged that they were stopped in front of the Senate House and threatened by the SFI activists when they came to attend the Senate meeting on the morning of December 21 after receiving the notice from the Registrar. The police did not take any action against it. They also pointed out that the University VC and the Registrar did not take action despite their demand for security. Following this, the High Court directed the police to provide protection to the petitioners and ensure law and order. The single bench also instructed to issue notices to the opposite parties- SFI leaders Afzal, KV Anuraj and Muhammad Ali Shihab- through a special envoy.
