THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: An invigilator was fined Rs 3000 after failing to notice the wrong registration number written by one of the students who appeared for the higher secondary examination. The higher secondary teacher was fined after Director of Public Education S Shanawas issued an order in this regard.
The student register number was written wrongly in the Higher Secondary First Year English Examination held last year. A report was sought after the incident, and the teacher was accused of not thoroughly checking the register number written by students.
The invigilator admitted to the mistake but pleaded forgiveness saying it was not committed intentionally. However, according to the Director of Education's assessment, the error would have invited grave consequences and deserves no magnanimity.
The fine was imposed on the invigilator citing that the result declaration got delayed. The invigilator should send the challan of the fine paid to the treasury and the certified copy of the disciplinary action recorded in the service book to the Director of Public Education.
However, AHSTA General Secretary S. Manoj said it was unfair to impose fines on teachers for such trivial errors.
