SULTAN BATHERY: A woman and her daughter filed a complaint of dowry harassment in Sultan Bathery, Wayanad on Saturday. Shahana and her daughter raised a ruckus in front of her husband's house, alleging that he had remarried without obtaining a divorce. After being informed by the locals, the police reached the spot and calmed down the situation. The police also asked Shahana to seek legal help.

Shahana Banu's allegation is against Abu Bakar Siddique, a native of Bathery Naiketty. According to Shahana, their divorce proceedings have not been completed and her husband has also stopped providing any financial help to them. In angst, Shahana reached Siddique's house and raised a ruckus knowing that he married another woman.

Shahana also alleged that she faced dowry harassment from her husband's family. Shahana’s family already gave 37 sovereign gold and Rs 3 lakh as dowry when the two were married but the torture continued. According to her allegation, Siddique's family members also tortured her mentally and physically citing dowry.

Shahana Banu and her daughter also took treatment after allegedly getting beaten up by Siddique. Meanwhile, the in-laws found fault in the lifestyle followed by Shahana which they said contravened the family beliefs. According to Siddique’s family, Shahana often disobeys her husband, walks in fashionable clothes and attends the gym.
