THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The KPCC-organized protest against the government turned violent just in front of the police headquarters in the capital city on Saturday. While the opposition leader V D Satheeshan was speaking at the event, some congress workers tried to climb the barricades kickstarting the ruckus. The police were quick to react and used tear gas and water cannons to keep the protestors at bay. Even women leaders from Congress pelted stones at the police.
The tear gas thrown by police fell near the location where the leaders were standing. V D Satheeshan thus had to end his speech midway and was taken away by other congress members to safety. K Sudhakaran was shifted to the hospital after experiencing physical discomfort in the protest. Attempts are being made to remove senior Congress leaders from the location.
The protests were organised against the brutal torture and violence hurled at the congress workers by DYFI members and even the CM's gunman during the NKS event.
