NEWARK: A temple was desecrated in US California by alleged Khalistan workers. The walls of Sri Swami Narayan Mandir temple were vandalized with graffiti paint that demeaned PM Modi as a terrorist while also eulogizing Khalistan separatist Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale, who was killed in Operation Bluestar in 1984.

Temple member Chintan Pandya said the attack on the temple was implicit one aimed at the Indian community in the US. Pandya said this was the first such incident to happen after the temple opened just two years back. After the incident, the temple officials called a special meeting to discuss the attack.

Newark City Police Captain Jonathan Arguello announced that a detailed investigation will be conducted into the attack. Arguello vowed to arrest the brain behind the attack within a few days. The police are planning to check the CCTV cameras of nearby houses to find those behind the attack. The Indian Consulate in San Francisco has also responded to the attack on the temple.

The Consulate strongly condemned the defacement of Sri Swami Narayana Mandir in Newark, California. The consulate said the vandalizing incident hurt the sentiments of the Indian community. The consulate stated that the US authorities have been instructed to investigate and find the accused as soon as possible.

Attacks on Hindu temples in the US and Canada have been frequent in the past few years. It is alleged that supporters of Khalistan are behind this.
