ALAPPUZHA: With the recent floods affecting agriculture in Tamil Nadu, vegetable prices in Kerala have risen by Rs 2 to Rs 100 per kg in a week. Drumstick is the most expensive among the vegetables from Tamil Nadu- Rs 170 per kg. The price stood at Rs 90 last week. The price of green chillies has doubled to Rs 80 from Rs 40 last week.

Only the price of ginger has fallen in the past few days. The price of ginger, which stood at Rs 240 last month, has come down to Rs 140. The reason for the fall in prices is the increase in the arrival of ginger from Wayanad. The prices of many items have more than doubled as the arrival of vegetables has halved during the wedding season.

More than 100 loads of vegetables used to reach the markets of Alappuzha every day. Yesterday, it was down to 20. Nearly three-quarters of the items stocked by wholesalers last week have run out
