The Mavoor police reached the spot immediately after receiving information and took necessary steps.
A police jeep rammed into a pump in Kannur last October. In the accident, the car which was filling petrol was damaged. Following the incident, the car moved backward and damaged the petrol filling machine, but a major disaster was averted. There was a sigh of relief as there was no rush in the pump. The jeep hit the car of Karunakaran, a native of Kambil. Karunakaran, who was slightly injured, sought treatment at a private hospital. Karunakaran was returning after dropping his daughter at the railway station.
The accident happened at the pump opposite to the collectorate. After hitting the divider on the road, the Bolero Jeep at Kannur Town Station rammed into the pump. ASI Santosh was driving the vehicle. Mess Officer Preman was also with him. As soon as the accident happened, both of them ran out of the vehicle, leading to protests. They were not wearing uniform.
Although it was alleged that the vehicle did not have insurance, the police explained that the jeep has covered more than three and a half lakh kilometers. The jeep is of eleven years old and is used only for Kannur AR camp canteen purposes. However, the vehicle had worn out tires and a rusted body.
