THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Antony Raju held the position of Transport Minister for two and a half years avoiding all the situations of corruption allegations and controversies. He was careful not to be accused of the AI camera contract, which the opposition termed as the biggest scam of the current cabinet.
Antony Raju's efforts to popularize green fuel in public transport bore fruit. 113 electric buses reached the capital city. Exemptions in vehicle tax were announced considering the loss during the Covid era. However, efforts to pay the KSRTC employees on time were not entirely successful. It was Antony Raju who took the blame from left trade union leaders whenever salaries and pensions were delayed due to the non-cooperation of the finance department. He was also the one who turned down KSRTC CMD Biju Prabhakar's resignation offer.
Antony Raju denied Mon Eugene Perera's claim that he sought the help of the Latin Church to stay in the ministry for five years instead of two and a half years. Antony Raju's response that he was not the minister of the Latin Church alone had angered the church. Antony Raju challenged Mon Eugene Perera to prove that he had approached the church for the position of minister.
"I am stepping down as a happy man. Happy that I am leaving after making sure that there are no salary arrears for KSRTC employees. I tried to make the corporation better. The criticism was about the chair I was sitting on. Not taking anything personally."
