KOLLAM: Hundreds of miniature vehicles can be seen in the house of KB Ganesh Kumar, who is about to become the Transport Minister. From bus and car to train and helicopter. All toys!

Ganesh has been fond of toy cars since his childhood. Ganesh still has the small car that his mother Vatsala Balakrishnan had bought for him as a gift when his father R Balakrishna Pillai was returning from Delhi when he was an MP.

The mini-helicopter bought ten years ago at a cost of one and a half lakh rupees can be flown by fueling it with methanol. It has a remote control. There was one more of the same model that crashed while flying. Ganesh Kumar does not feel like flying the current one because of that. The playroom is set up in the room where his mother used to sleep. The railway track has been set up on the tiled floor. The train will reach you once you press the remote. Lorry, KSRTC Bus, Tractor, Jeep, Ship, Boat, Bullet, Various Cars...

Pilla prefered pens

R Balakrishna Pillai was fond of pens. He had a large collection of pens including foreign ones. Ganesh also has a collection of pens, but has a penchant for toys. No matter which country he goes to, he will buy a toy car. Many were also received as gifts. A miniature version of Ganesh Kumar's blue Qualis was made and donated by a Plus One student and a youth from Vettikavala.

"Toy cars have long been a fascination of mine. Once the red tractor given to me by my mother was stolen. I was very sad for a long time. I got happy again when a friend from Germany gave me a similar one. I have a collection of pens and I am fond of elephants as well. If I get a toy vehicle, I won't be able to sleep without driving it."
