CHALAKKUDY: Two DYFI members Nirmal and Afzal were arrested for their involvement in an altercation with police and damaging a jeep during a Government ITI election celebration. They were remanded for 14 days by the Kodungallur Magistrate Court. This brings the total number of arrests related to the Chalakudy incident to eight.

The court also remanded DYFI block president Nitin Pullen, arrested on Saturday evening. Moreover, CPM Chalakudy area secretary KS Asokan and committee member Jill Antony are implicated. Approximately 20 known members have also been named as defendants.

In response to the incident causing a traffic jam due to demonstrations in the city, three cases were filed against SFI, DYFI and Youth Congress workers. Chalakudy SI Afzal criticized by SFI is currently on leave. The rural district cited the leave as per the instructions of the SP amid the controversy surrounding the incident.
