ADIMALI: Two from Malappuram were arrested in Adimali for carting 100kg of sandalwood. Panakkad natives Riaz P. Mohammad (28) and Mubashir (25) were arrested by Adimali Traffic Police and handed over to the Machiplavu Forest Department.
Sandalwood weighing 100 kg in 4 sacks including 56 large pieces was seized from the trunk of the vehicle. Adimali Traffic Police while on a routine vehicle check at Kochi-Dhanushkodi National Highway near Koompanpara at around 6 pm on Sunday first beckoned to stop the car. The two youths however decided to speed away instilling doubt in the police. The Adimali police tracked the vehicle and caught sight of the vehicle from the central junction. However, the youths fled from the car and entered a bar on the nearby premises.
The traffic police tracked them and took both of them into custody from the bar. It is said that a man named Hanifa from Marayur handed the sandalwood to them in Munnar. The youths were heading to Malappuram with sandalwood when the police stopped them. According to officials, both of them were working as agents for a long.
