Ministers Antony Raju and Ahammad Devarkovil have resigned according to the Front agreement without complaining or causing any trouble, giving a chance to two new ministers. Many did not expect the change of cabinet to go so smoothly. KB Ganeshkumar and Kadannappalli Ramachandran, who have received the chance to become ministers, will take office this coming Friday. Both are not newcomers as ministers. Ganesh Kumar has proved his ability as a member of the cabinet of ministers twice. Similarly, this is the third time for Kadannappalli Ramachandran, who has been in politics for decades. Both of them can claim a lot of experience and administrative background. Therefore, it can be believed that both of them will be able to write a new chapter by managing the departments they get well. All the best to Ganesh Kumar and Kadannappalli Ramachandran who will be taking over.
When the LDF came to power with a good majority, one of the pledges taken by the front was to give cabinet representation to all constituent parties. With the appointment of two new ministers, it can be said that the pledge has almost been fulfilled. Ten of the constituent parties have received representation in the cabinet. Now only the old LJD is left. It can be said that they were humbled by the division in their party and so on.
It is not clear whether the new ministers will be given the same departments held by Antony Raju and Ahmed Devarkovil who resigned as ministers. If that happens, Ganesh Kumar and Kadannappalli will get the same departments they held before. It is also special that they are the departments in which both of them have already proved their excellence in. As the division of departments is a matter under the jurisdiction of the Chief Minister, everyone is waiting for his decision. It has not been said whether there will be any change in the departments of other ministers. Such rumours were already in the air.
The tenure of the new ministers will be barely two and a half years. Ganesh Kumar has indicated that he has some ideas in mind to improve KSRTC if he gets the transport department. As Transport Minister, he had made great contributions to reforming the corporation before as well. He was able to earn the name of an able minister in a short period of time. Still reeling under huge debt, bailing out KSRTC is not going to be easy in the current scenario. However, it can be done with the right efforts. How many crores of rupees are being given to the corporation by the government every year? If the liabilities could be settled at once, the corporation would be able to stand on its own feet. Reaching out to the government to pay monthly salaries and pensions could also be avoided.
Kadannappalli has prior experience in the Ports Department. He will once again take charge of the port department just as Vizhinjam port, which is about to become operational, will write a new chapter in the state's development. The outgoing Ahammad Devarkovil had initiated several projects to expand the operations of the port department. Many projects like the development of small ports, cruise ship from Gulf to Kerala, modernization of fishing harbours are at halfway. A big challenge awaits the new minister to complete all that in two and a half years.
