Chennai’s most iconic high-rise hotel, Crowne Plaza Chennai Adyar Park ceased its operation after providing hospitality for 40 epic years. According to officials, the hotel management decided to shut down operations as part of a rebuilding phase that will see another high-rise building coming in the same spot but is likely to be a commercial apartment.
The hotel management had earlier asked guests with membership to avail all their vouchers before December 20th. The hotel is one of the first posh buildings to grace the metropolitan city and boasts of having 287 rooms with sumptuous culinary varieties. It is said that curd rice in this hotel costs about Rs 8000. For food aficionados, the five-star hotel provided a rare space of opulence and culinary masterclass.
For Malayalis, a small mention of the name 'Adyar Park' would make their mind go back the years to 1987, for its short cameo in the cult movie ‘Nadodikkattu’. In the movie, actor Mohanlal and Sreenivasan make a brief visit to the hotel sporting a white long Arab robe. The hotel's name appeared for just a few seconds where actor Mohanlal is seen mentioning it in awe. However, the name got etched into many Malayali minds because of the popularity the movie garnered.
The hotel which went earlier by the name Adyar Gate Hotel, Park Sheraton Hotel and Towers, will be known henceforth as one of the erstwhile games of Madras. And for the people of Chennai, nothing can fill the space once owned by this iconic hotel.
From Holiday Inn Madras to Adayar Park to Park Sheraton to Crowne Plaza and Poof! It will be gone just like that . We will miss you Adayar Park 🥹🥹 https://t.co/iBggz8GSiZ pic.twitter.com/F1vGZTQ4w3
