THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kannur Taliparamba Taluk Supply Officer PK Anil was caught by vigilance while accepting a bribe of Rs.5,000.

Taluk Supply Officer Anil informed the complainant on 20th of last month that the complainant, who is a native of Peruvalathuparamba in Kannur district, should convert his current BPL card into APL card as soon as possible as he has his own car and pay a fine of Rs 3 lakh to the government for using BPL card till now. The supply officer informed the complainant that the fine could be waived if he paid a bribe of Rs 25,000.

Anil, who received Rs 10,000 as the first instalment of the bribe on the 25th, waived the fine and issued a new APL card to the complainant. When the complainant informed to say that he got a new card, the supply officer demanded a bribe of Rs 5,000 more. Following this, the complainant informed Kannur Vigilance DySP Babu Peringeth. The vigilance team led by him laid a trap for Anil. At 4:45 pm today, the vigilance team caught Anil red-handed while he was accepting the bribe at the Taluk Supply Office. The accused will be produced before the Kozhikode Vigilance Court.

The vigilance team consisted of Inspector Sunil Kumar, Sub-Inspectors Praveen, Nijesh, Girish and Sreejith, Assistant Sub-Inspectors Rajesh and Babu and Senior Civil Police Officers Suresh, Vijin and Hyresh.
