KOCHI: The court found Sanu Mohan guilty in the case of suffocating his ten-year-old daughter Vaiga and throwing her into the river. The verdict was pronounced by the Ernakulam special court that considers cases against women and children. The court observed that all the charges against the accused have been proved. The argument on the quantum of the sentence will begin in the afternoon.

Vaiga was found dead on March 22 in 2021. The case is that he smothered the child to death and then dumped the body in the Muttar River near Kalamassery. The charge sheet filed by Thrikakkara Inspector K Dhanapalan said that Sanu Mohan killed Vaiga and went into hiding because of his anger towards his wife, excessive love for his daughter and as a strategy to escape from the debt trap.

Case that confused police
The Vaiga murder case had confused the Kochi City Police for nearly a month. 13-year-old Vaiga was killed on March 21 in 2021. The body was found in Muttar River the next day, but the investigation was hampered by the mysterious disappearance of her father Sanu. He was arrested on April 19 from Karwar in Karnataka.
The accused was not granted natural bail as the charge sheet was filed before 90 days of arresting him. Finding the phones Sanu sold and one thrown on the road became crucial evidence in the case.
