KOTTAYAM: The accused who snatched a gold necklace from the passenger of a running train that was leaving the station has been arrested. Abdul Hussain, a native of Assam, was arrested in the case. The incident took place at Kottayam railway station at 11.30 am on Christmas day.

When the train started running from the platform, the accused snatched the necklace of a woman from Thrissur who was sitting on the window seat.

The CCTV camera had caught him walking through the station with the necklace. On the same day, he also stole the mobile phone of a passenger who was sleeping on the Amrita Express. Abdul Hussain was arrested during the investigation conducted by the police on the complaint of the two passengers.

The police said that the accused had committed the theft by wearing black clothes to avoid suspicion as it was the Sabarimala pilgrimage season. He has been working as a painting worker in Kanjirappally for the past one year after arriving in Kottayam.
