BENGALURU: Videos of school officials forcing children to wash toilets in Karnataka are going viral. The children from Shivamogga were forced to clean the toilets. There has been a strong protest from the parents in this incident. Shivamogga is the home district of Education Minister Madhu Bangarappa.
The shocking incident took place last week, but the video has surfaced only now. The explanation given by the headmistress is that the students were only asked to pour water and they were not forced to clean the toilets. This is the third such incident in the state this month.
Last week, footage of students cleaning toilets in a government school in Bengaluru had surfaced. Later, angry parents and locals protested outside the school.
The Education Minister had condemned the incident and assured that strict action would be taken and efforts would be made to ensure that such incidents do not recur. The headmistress was suspended as well. However, the minister has not yet responded to the similar incident in his own district.
NSS and Sevadal camps train children to clean gardens or plant saplings, but they should not be forced to clean toilets, the Congress responded.
