SEOUL: A 28-year-old woman has been arrested by the police in connection with the death of actor Lee Sun Kyun from the Oscar-winning South Korean film Parasite. The police say that Lee Sun Kyun committed suicide after being blackmailed by her and her 29-year-old friend. Police have not released more information about the suspects. The actor was found dead in his car parked in a park in central Seoul on Wednesday morning.
According to the police, the women had been blackmailing Lee since early December but the police have not specified how. It is reported that the women demanded 300 million Korean currency from the actor. Police are investigating further in this regard.
48-year-old Lee Sun-kyun got globally famous with the film 'Parasite', which won the Oscar for the best film of 2020. Lee had been under police surveillance for some time due to drug use. According to reports, Lee was recently banned from film and television programs after being caught in a drug case. Lee was last seen in the horror film 'Sleep' which released this year. The police had questioned him in connection with the drug case last October. He had apologized to everyone over the media then. Lee is married to actress Jeon Hye-jin. They have two sons.
