THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: When Vizhinjam, which will pave the way for Kerala's economic boom, became a reality, CPM has taken over the port department from the constituent party.
Instead of giving the port department to Congress-S leader Ramachandran Kadannappalli, who replaced Ex port minister Ahammad Devarkovil of INL, it was given to CPM leader VN Vasavan. The registration department was taken from Vasavan and given to Kadannappalli. The port department was handled by Kadannappalli in the 1st Pinarayi government.
Vasavan is a member of the CPM state secretariat and a confidant of the chief minister. He is performing well as Excise and Cooperation Minister. It is reported that there was a discussion in CPM to take over the department considering the importance of Vizhinjam International Port. Occasional regional opposition to the project area also added strength to the party's demand to take over the department.
At the same time, KB Ganesh Kumar's demand to get the film department along with the transport department was rejected. The film department is currently held by CPM minister Saji Cherian. The government is also in possession of the Hema Commission report which created a lot of controversy in the film industry. KSFDC and Film Academy are also under the Department of Cinema. Therefore, the CPM was not ready to give up the department.
After the oath taking and the Governor's tea ceremony, both the Ministers reached the Secretariat and took charge. Ganesh Kumar has stated that he will not have an official residence and will reduce the staff, but the final decision has not been taken. Kadannappalli will be given Thaikkad House or Nila. Kadannappalli has state car number six and Ganeshkumar number seven.
